I'm not saying this store isn't having problems currently, I'm just sick of the way we're constantly influenced to panic.

The article you shared is over 2 years old. How is it relevant now?

I mean if you look below the fold in this article...

> Just last week, Mayor London Breed released new crime numbers for the city, showing declines in robberies, burglaries, and larceny-theft, including car break-ins and retail theft, for January. That builds on improvements recorded in 2023, the mayor’s office said.

But point wasn't about this hardware store, my point was about what the news chooses to emphasize.

Compared to proper solutions (educating people, properly punishing offenders with no parole) these other solutions look like a workaround. Government is apparently helpless and shifting the solution to the people - just like in school shootings.

Another possible solution: memberships

Costco does not have this issue.

I also read about somewhere in Asia where a debit/credit card is required to enter the store during night time hours. I suspect a hold is placed which you get back as credit? It may have been Korea?

It's also harder to pocket a giant tub of peanut butter. Can you even buy individual tools like at a hardware store in the story?
