Ask HN: Tired of Web Dev
3 points by alanir 6 months ago | hide | past | favorite | 2 comments
I’ve been working in web dev for about 6 years now, mainly frontend but with a good mix of backend work and I feel like I’ve hit a wall, I just can’t seem to bring myself to be interested in the type of work I do anymore.

The problems that I work on aren’t interesting, any challenge in the work comes from having to fiddle with some ridiculous combination of tools to render anything to the screen, working with really technically incompetent designers is exhausting, the list goes on…

What is a realistic path for me to get out of this? I still enjoy programming, I like working on embedded projects, I really enjoy building things but if I have to write another CRUD API or onboarding flow I am going to scream.

idk man. i've been a webdev for 25 years and appear to have aged out of tech at 49.

I tried applying for QA, Linux admin and management roles but the phone simply stopped ringing a year ago

how about a job building consumer-facing web apps? or transition to mobile app development?
