Open standards -- and RSS is the open podcasting standard -- always win in the end. Listenership of the show (and the embedded ads) will skyrocket. That said, I don't know if it's been announced that the JRE will return to being on an open RSS feed or if it will only expand to "captive platforms" where analytics can be harvested both from the server side and the app/listener side (Apple does support exclusive, premium content that isn't available on a public RSS feed). Would be better if Spotify simply embraced more open standards like OP3[1] and other aspects of Podcasting 2.0 but making the show available outside of Spotify is a first step.

I'm a big RSS user so I'm sorry to disagree with your optimism.

Unfortunately, RSS has become less relevant when compared to other popular platforms made by "Big Tech". But I've been using RSS for over a decade now as a window to everything on the internet and I haven't missed a beat. Subscribed to Ebay listings, Instagram, shopping sites, podcasts, blogs, etc--virtually any internet content I'm interested in on any website, all without any flawed algorithms or ads. Site's like rss.app and openrss.org make RSS pretty easy to use now compared to a decade ago. I'm pretty enthusiastic about the future of RSS.
