Imagine having the CMD+K functionality of Cursor.sh but instead of code you edit natural language.

*Introducing Fixkey:*

- Native Swift macOS app (no Electron) - Keyboard-centric - Select common prompts with keyboard shortcuts - Press one shortcut to select and fix the current paragraph - Create custom prompts just in time - Works in every application on macOS (Apple Notes, Obsidian, Notion, Gmail, Slack…) - Support for local running models (Beta)

*Why not using Grammarly?:*

I always feel that traditional grammar correction tools like Grammarly distract me from my flow of writing and thoughts by requiring me to actively select words to autocorrect with my mouse.

Fixkey introduces a new mental model for writing; Just hammer down your thoughts and fix your sentence with one shortcut.

Using this method boosted my typing speed from 90 to 120 words per minute. Typing feels effortless. I was able to write this paragraph without looking at my screen, just focusing on what I want to say.

Pretty risky using the term copilot as Microsoft is risking their entire company on it right now :) I'm sure they trademarked it and will defend it like hawks to prevent it becoming another "Xerox" or "Hoover". Those became general terms and lost their trademark.

FWIW I think Microsoft's marketing really sucks as they call everything CoPilot now which encompasses a range of products and it's totally unclear which one does what. But they're really hell bent on making it their buzzword.

I'm guessing you know this is research backed as a far more effective system than using prediction (for dyslexic students and many others) right? https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/dys.1480 https://asistdl.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1002/asi.... (NB: You need a sentence "fixer" mode which runs without a shortcut key. Dont do all the complete formatting fixes like bullet points etc. just a prompt like "Correct any typos including finding word boundaries in this sentence")

Landing looks sleek, but tbh pretty expensive monthly plan

Will wait for open source solution

The pricing is not that bad given Grammarly is $12 / month and is getting progressively worse every month. If Fixkey had a Windows version, I'd give it a try.

Grammarly is one of those services with an obscene base price and fat discounts available, though. I’ve been getting it for $60-70 a year for a while now via 50+% off Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals.

They also have AI-based functionality along with traditional correction. Their correction works pretty well for me, but their client software blows and hasn’t gotten better with time, to your point.

OTOH, my employer has vetted and allows Grammarly but doesn’t allow random AI-based products or OpenAI API utilities that take my own key, for security reasons. I suspect a lot of others who actually would need to use a grammar checker professionally might be in a similar position.

Thanks - I will keep an eye out for the deals! The AI features are such a hit and miss. Sometimes Grammarly will seriously improve my email, but many suggestions, especially around being positive and confident, are usually very wrong.

Have you noticed any degradation of traditional corrections? Recently, Grammarly started correcting its own earlier corrections in, if I allowed it, an infinite loop.

FWIW, a few years ago Google didn't allow Grammarly; I don't know the current status.

I don't want to come across as too negative about Grammarly; it is useful and has an enormous potential. I hope the company finds its way.

Nice polish on the app. However, I built this exact thing for myself using PowerShell (you could use any scripting language) , my OpenAI API Key and Snippety (on macOS). It was trivial to do and the costs are next to nothing.

But for users who want something ready made and don’t mind subscriptions this looks nice.

Something something Dropbox is just rsync plus freenas (someone else can link the infamous post, I don't have it handy)

mind sharing?

I decided to take this on. Documented it here

i'm interested as well.

Nope. It’s just a sentence. We are not associated with it in any way

ChatKey (https://github.com/overflowy/chat-key) can do all of this for free.

seems to be only for windows

Curious: where do you look while typing? I have OCD and would get extremely confused seeing the non-ideal text in the textarea all the time.

Love the key binding to select & fix the current line!

I dont have typos that often, so their 15 free fixes every month works perfectly good for me

I got more and more excited as I read the description, and then I clicked "Pricing". Remember when you could buy apps?

You can just rebind a key to launch a macro to do this. I guess it’s nice to be all packaged up, but a month price….

Monthly fee is a dealbreaker. Yuck.

Monthly subscription? Capitalism much?
