Is Mastodon more popular in Germany/Europe? Since hetzner has expanded to the US and seems to offer competitive pricing there too it would be interesting to know how many instances are hosted there vs Germany and Finland.
Sorta? The German government and its agencies share their own instance [0], the public broadcasting institutions ARD [1] and ZDF [2] have their own Mastodon instances. There's a decently long list of German politicians and parties that can be found on a mix of their own instances and public ones [3]. The EU also has its own platform [4].
I can't speak for their popularity compared to other countries or regions, since those are outside of my bubble.
