They could also prosecute car thieves. That worked, until they stopped doing it, at which point this crime spike happened.

YMMV

Who are you going to prosecute? The possible culprit is pretty much any teenager with Tik-Tok within metro limits ...

Also if you don't know where the car is; its pretty hard to collect evidence.

> Over the summer, Bowser and Hyundai offered an “anti-theft” clinic for Hyundai owners at RFK Stadium; Hyundais and Kias make up a large chunk of vehicles targeted and stolen in the D.C. region due to systems on some models that made them easier to steal. Videos on TikTok and other social media platforms have shown how something as simple as a USB cable can be used to hotwire Kias and Hyundais built between 2010 and 2021 that still use a typical key and not a fob or push-button

Ok, that suggestion of installing Apple AirTag is just not only downright stupid, but arguably the most dangerous plan.

Disclaimer: I am developing an embedded system that alerts the driver (or purse-carrier) of any presence of unknown AirTag and other real-time location tracking devices.

My focus is to aid these domestic-abuse victims with protection from stalkers/abusers thereof.

Unknown, sure. But someone who's concerned about stalkers tracking them can spend much more time finding that tracker than someone who's trying to steal a car.

Is your concern that having one in most cars will create false-positives, or something?

Imagine that you are an air traffic controller monitoring all legitimate planes outfitted with ATAC for proper tracking, you should not have to worry too much about unknown planes, right?

One or two planes, use old fashion air tower guidance.

Tracking stalker means it only takes ONE, and he is not announcing himself (amongst others)

It is about Shannon's Limit vs. Golay/Convoluted; signal noise ratio.
