I'm actually a bit surprised we haven't seen more stories like this. I imagine there is a huge amount of espionage activities happening in Silicon Valley (or at least IP theft) that the FBI is trying to investigate so it makes sense they would try to cultivate a network out there.
Indeed, decent, down-to-earth people should unite in a time where both power hungry fascists and foreign adversaries are exploiting the extreme divides in the country.
I think the shock (to some) comes from the perceived hypocrisy of constantly attacking the establishment, but the collaborating with it.
This isn't a shock to me because I never believed that his problem with establishment was ideological as he pretends, but a matter of power. He doesn't like the establishment, because the more powerful the establishment is the less free reign he has to buy influence. Therefore, it makes sense that he collaborates with the establishment where it benefits him, because it increases his power.
