Dear climate-tech/green-tech recruiters and engineering leads,
I know you're out there. I can sense you, lurking behind a pile of processed resumes and cradling your reusable coffee cup like a talisman warding against ChatGPT cover letters. You're searching for that unicorn, the 10x engineer motivated by saving the planet who also rocks human skills that would make Brené Brown sit up and take notice.
I... am not that unicorn. More of a walrus, really, with wombat-like characteristics? But I did recently get restructured out of a role in climate-tech before I was done saving the world. I want more. I've got solid technical chops in platform engineering, Linux, AWS, Docker, all that good stuff. I'm an actual human who can talk (and listen) to people while only staring at my shoes approximately 35% of the time.
I work remotely from New Zealand, where green is practically a brand. We have tax treaties so you can pay me from everywhere, and our timezone dovetails nicely with many popular tech hubs including the Western US, Oceania, and Asia.
I make dev teams better. Add me to yours. There's a bit of a problem with CO2 we need to fix.
13 years of experience in startup software development and DevOps across web apps, cloud, and Linux networking. Six years of leadership in teams of up to 7 people.
Looking for an engineering manager or senior IC position to mentor your team and make something people want.
Here are a sample of things I've accomplished:
* I built a platform for hosting web applications using Kubernetes at a major cloud provider and taught engineers to operate and improve it. It uses Helm to manage the instances of the single-tenant app and includes a Python application to manage the customer instances based on configuration from the subscription management vendor.
* I trained and mentored a team of developers in software patterns, communication, and prioritizing work, and I reduced context switching in the team’s workflows, leading to a 72% increase in velocity in two months.
* I maintain for the community Apt package for Helm, the Kubernetes package manager, which is downloaded more than 200,000 times per month.
* I developed a CI/CD pipeline to build Docker images for a web app, run automated tests, and update the customer applications after every merge.
* I improved performance of a proprietary VPN by adopting Cython, permitting use of C functions in Python, resulting in a 2.5x increase in network throughput when limited by CPU
Hi! I'm Tom, a Senior Software Engineer with over 10 years experience and most recently 9 years at Microsoft. I'm coming off a 2 year sabbatical and looking for cool projects (C++ is a bonus.) I've worked on some very impactful stuff: I have contributed to the JavaScript language standard (TC39 committee) when working on the Chakra Javascript Engine. I owned the distributed build client (Goma fork) of the newest Chromium-based Edge browser, servicing over 500 devs. I was a consultant for specialized DevOps for top Azure customers, including implementing MLOps and GitOps. I have written MSDN documentation and samples, and conducted internal and external training. I'm an Australian citizen with a green card, friendly and easy to work with. My recent projects include porting the ChakraCore interpreter to ARM64 Mac OS, and writing a NES emulator in C++.

I'm an experienced DevOps / SRE / Infrastructure engineer who has focused mostly on startups who need to level up their infrastructure capabilites (e.g. migrating from Heroku to AWS).
As such, I've had my fingers in a lot of pies over the course of my career, doing what needs to be done to automate infrastructure and turn it into a commodity while preventing it from becoming a black box. I believe that crafting appropriately leveled documentation is a key to keeping the walls down between infrastructure and application engineering. I love teaching others my craft while continuing to acquire new skills.
I am willing to consider equity in partial exchange for base compensation for the right opportunity at a small startup. I also have the ability to hire at least one more to build a team if desired.
Hello! I'm Teófilo Duffau, a software engineer with over 7 years of experience in web development, web rendering, and high-performance interactive applications. With a versatile skill set and a background as the frontend lead in a Y Combinator startup (YC S20 program), I bring a wealth of experience to the table.
Currently, I'm a senior rendering engineer working on a canvas-based web application used by millions worldwide. My passion lies in web rendering, data visualization, and applications where performance is a critical factor.
I'm a software engineer with over 2 years of experience working with ERPs in the logistics industry. But I'm open to any industry that is trying to digitalize their workflows. I am a quick learner and problem solver who always thrive to understand the bigger picture as well as the minute details in the task at hand. I try not to restrict myself into any technologies or frameworks, but focus on what the team needs and what I can do and go from there. Additionally, I can communicate fluently in English to discuss technical problems with the clients. If you are looking for a self-motivated, collaborative engineer, I would love to contribute. Thank you for your consideration.

I am excited to announce that I am transitioning from a career in accounting and management in the real estate industry to become a software developer. I have recently completed a coding bootcamp and have been honing my skills with the help of my boyfriend, who is an experienced web developer with over 15 years of experience.
I am looking for my first job as a software developer and am eager to bring my passion for problem-solving and attention to detail to your team. My experience in accounting and management has taught me how to approach complex problems with a clear head and a structured approach. I am confident that these skills, coupled with my newly acquired technical skills, will enable me to be a valuable asset to any team.
During my bootcamp, I learned front-end web development technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript and basic React. I am a quick learner and always eager to expand my skillset.
In addition to my technical skills, I am a team player who values open communication and collaboration. I believe that a positive work environment is essential for both individual and team success, and I strive to contribute to that environment in any way possible.
If you are looking for a hardworking and dedicated team member who is eager to learn and grow as a software developer, I would love to connect with you. Thank you for considering me for your team!
I'm a senior software engineer with thirteen years of experience - mainly in Python development. I started off working at small agency, a couple startups, a biotech company, and most recently an enterprise insurance leads sales company.
I really enjoy working with Python, and try to focus my career and communities around Python. I've worked with and would work with again both Go and Ruby. For Ruby I've done Rails and Sinatra, and Go I've built a CLI tool and and APIs. While primarily backend focused, I have progressively expanded my front-end skills over time, transitioning from jQuery to VueJS. Collaborating well with fellow engineers is one of my strengths, and I find great satisfaction in mentoring and supporting others in their growth.

I provide consulting services for everything in the OpenAI / LLM / ChatGPT realm. I'm an ex-Google consultant who now enjoys working with LLMs. After extensive work on projects for the likes of Village Global, I've developed advanced techniques for solving traditional problems in the space. I mainly provide Chat Bot / Assistant / Co-Pilot / Question Answering systems over your custom / private dataset. Everything from basic (vector similarity retrieval + chat functionality) to advanced (massive accuracy improvement over vector similarity) systems.
I also have extensive ETL / data experience, so if your dataset is large, and/or is not already cleaned / prepared / queryable, that won't be an issue.
All projects are fixed-price (no hourly billing). A typical basic chat bot / question answering system is $15,000 flat fee (excluding cloud hosting and OpenAI API costs) with a 2-week turnaround.
Hi! I'm a full-stack software engineer looking for a role on a team where I can do meaningful, purpose-driven work. I'm a very fast learner and enjoy picking up new technologies and diving into internals to more deeply understand the fundamentals of the ones I know, or as a way of learning unfamiliar ones. I'm open to full-stack, frontend or backend positions.
I recently wrapped up work on Otto: an open-source, web-based, automated ETL workflow manager for JavaScript developers that allows users to process up to 255 MB of data in branching workflows of several dozen steps. Our team of 4 built integrations with PostgreSQL and MongoDB and with user-provided JavaScript code and implemented detailed metrics and error logging for active workflows. To learn more, visit us at www.otto-etl.com.
Some other personal/creative projects can be found on my GitHub. I also have a background in narrative games and did a talk at last year's NarraScope about storytelling through UI design.
Hey everyone :) First time posting in one of these threads.
I've been at my current company since 2021, and was promoted to lead my team last year. I've really enjoyed supporting them and passing my values on, but the time has come to look at moving as the company itself has grown and changed.
Over about 10 years working mostly in the Microsoft stack, I've architected, built or contributed to a variety of business applications - if not at a "product" company, the usual consultancy fun of taking a spec the size of a postage stamp, working out what the solution looks like, and then building it. I'm equally happy being a one-man-band or working in a team.

At home, I've built up a small collection of projects and services depending on need and interest - TrueNAS, an OpenWRT-flashed router for network-wide adblock, and a small troupe of Raspberry Pi's with RTL-SDR for decoding ADS-B. I'm currently mucking with earthly.dev to automate building Arch Linux ARM images and sniffing the traffic from our home SMART meter.
I'm physically disabled, so remote or one day a week onsite is critical, but occasional travel with plenty of notice is fine. I'm looking to work with/for someone who values people over KPI's. Ideally your incentives are aligned with building the best product/service possible for the end user and we're doing some good for the world. If you want someone to come in and invest time and effort improving developer quality of life, I also love finding and fixing little annoyances.
Hi! I’m Melissa, a software engineer with a product mindset and experience in product management, sales, and UI/UX design. In my most recent full-time position at AlphaMap I contributed in both engineering and product roles to help the company reach product-market fit. As the first non-founding engineer, I worked closely with the founders to build out numerous core features, and while on product I managed the launch of what has become their flagship product.
Before that, I built a multi-tenant order management system from scratch, then scaled it into a customized fundraiser management SaaS platform (selljar.com). With strong proficiency in React, TypeScript, and JavaScript, I enjoy learning new technologies and taking on new challenges. I am passionate about building high-quality tools to help real people. Grab a spot on my calendar at https://calendly.com/melissapearlmorgan/30min and let’s chat! I look forward to discussing how my expertise and enthusiasm can contribute to the work you are doing.
I'm a software developer/engineer with a mathematical background and over 15 years of software industry experience. My last few roles have been in observability, greenhouse gas accounting, and medical imaging. I have:
* streamlined data pipelines,
* taken full ownership of software stacks from the database, to the backend, frontend, and devops on AWS,
* taken deep dives into many codebases to figure out what makes them tick and how I can modify, improve, or instrument them
* mentored peers on fundamentals such as Unix, Python, git as well as organisational skills like how to run Scrum ceremonies
I like solving tricky problems, mentoring others, and carefully documenting my processes. I can do low-level programming, as low as 6502 assembly if that's what it takes, to architect high-level cloud infrastructures. I can interface with ABIs as fluently as with APIs. I am native to the command line. Emacs is my religion, but as a general rule, I do not proselytise.
We're Zach and Carl. Previously we worked on a small team at a startup writing software. That project involved impressive military hardware and guys who could literally snap us like twigs; our contribution was rock-solid code for use on distributed systems. We decided we'd try to keep rolling together and post here as a pair. Think of us as a no-money-down aqui-hire. (we're also available individually!)

Carl: A skilled manager and engineer with experience as a founder, a consultant, and a full-time employee. I've created and sold two companies. I’ve worked for startups, midsize, and large organizations in a diverse set of domains including blockchain, military communications, agriculture, manufacturing, healthcare, gaming, billing, work management, DevOps, and web services.
Zach: 6 years of experience as software engineer and product manager across robotics, space, defense, agriculture, and web dev. I've been project lead on all technical projects and have 4 YOE at small startups (<5 engineers)
I am a highly experienced polyglot developer, 8+ years at AMZN and multiple startups. I work across the stack from data pipelines, to APIs and frontend. I am very experienced in recruiting and team building
In my next role, I want a broad mandate to make a meaningful impact within an organization by developing products that address genuine business challenges, with a preference for data related problems.
Recently I built the data table for Jupyter/Pandas that I have
wanted for over a decade. The open source Buckaroo (https://github.com/paddymul/buckaroo) data table combines a performant table, summary statistics, and a low code UI to
expedite common data analysis tasks.

Hi, my name is Alex and I have 10 years of experience as a software engineer, including 5 years at Fortune 500 companies, 1 year of which I was a tech lead. For the last 4 years, I have had experience building mission critical software with Python and working on projects with ML/AI (NLP) and Big Data. I just finished a contract with Apple which I cannot discuss at length because I signed an NDA as all Apple employees are required to but was working on very large data projects. I have taken a month off without applying to new roles, since I did not take much vacation during my contract. I'm beginning to job search now and I'm mostly looking for roles with a laid back team working on interesting Python projects. I love working with AI/ML and Computer Vision and I am currently participating in a Kaggle competition to hone my skills. I can be an asset to a team which needs a skilled full-stack person or a Python/data specialist. Please reach out to my e-mail and I can send my resume, if you have roles which sound like a great match!
Take a read of my blog or GitHub if you wish to quickly gauge my skillset: https://sebinsua.com

Hi, I’m Ryan. I’m a senior software engineer with about a decade of industry experience over a diverse array of languages and technologies. My areas of interest include machine learning, optimization, and complex systems architecture. I particularly enjoy working with functional languages and am always interested in opportunities to solve difficult problems and really push my boundaries.
I’m also passionate about building healthy, functional teams who can focus on building the right things quickly.
I’m self-taught and my degree is in philosophy, which I like to think honed my ability to distill complex requirements into simple concepts and to communicate well with technical and non-technical folk alike.
I like to unwind by indulging in my hobbies of hand-tool woodworking or music production. It’s another way I enjoy solving problems, albeit in a very different context. Always looking to learn and grow, so I relish the idea of being the least experienced person in the room - it means I’m in the right place :)

My name is Joe. I am a software engineer. I build my own software, Awayto, which you can currently demo at https://awayto.store to see my output. The demo features a communications platform, similar to what you would expect if you were running an online writing center. There is RBAC, scheduling & online appointments, voice/video calling, shared whiteboard/document marking, and more. However, the system is built in a generic fashion where features can be added or removed on a whim, leading to a pivotable system for whatever business you're creating.
I'm interested in working with businesses with the above feature set interests, educational groups, community services, and so on. The software is fully open source and runs bare metal or (currently) on hetzner. As a freelancer I am looking for work on projects of similar scope, as well as implement Awayto for your own purposes, should you need.
I've been developing for 25 years and am of course open to other projects as well. And I look forward to hearing what ideas you have, and your needs.
Please contact me at joe \at\ keybittech.com for any inquiries, and check my profile for more info and links to my work.
I'm Kowshik Islam, a Toronto-based software engineer with a knack for building scalable and efficient solutions. I co-created Herald, an open-source observability platform for distributed applications, and spearheaded initiatives in automatic provisioning, microservices architecture, and containerization. Prior to Herald, I contributed extensively to the open-source community through several web apps. My career began at OFGO Studio, where I led the modernization of our existing infrastructure with software tools, transforming us into one of the most efficient companies in our domain. My educational journey is unique: I graduated with a Mechanical Engineering degree from Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University), complemented by the first two years of Computer Science study, and a specialized software engineering track from Launch School.
I've a 6-month internship experience at BYJU's in the frontend, full-stack team working in technologies like ReactJS (redux, saga, etc), Typescript, HTML, NodeJS where I worked directly on the monthly sprint features/items that got delivered into production where I handled some of the projects myself alone with 100% of contribution.
Apart from this, I have worked as Full Stack Developer in FiveM (GTA 5 Multiplayer) server, where I developed some resources including the frontend and backend, mission scripts, algorithm optimizations for large concurrent player base (probably highest in that community), etc.
I have some good projects (mentioned in resume) that are live into the production, where people are actually using it, rather be it in a game server or production.
I'm a quick learner and can adapt to any new technologies in short duration of time and getting into the depth by time.
I'm a 2024 batch graduate fresher looking for Full Time opportunities.

Like this Ask HN: Recommend employers with positive social impact [https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=31518945], I am looking for similar work. I am a European software developer who has lived and worked on four continents. Now it's time to move on and so i am looking to relocate to Africa.
While i could find a job elsewhere i believe that the experience living in an area where my work is going to have an impact gives me a better understanding of the needs of the location i am serving. I’m an MS in CS graduate from Virginia Tech, May 2023. I did my thesis on Data Sharing in Manufacturing and although I’m not at the liberty to discuss the details of it until the thesis becomes publicly available, my paper sheds some light on the work that I did. I have a fair bit of experience with Data Science and ML, and did a variety of work in the field – Data Science for Public Good, internships at an M&E firm (Arqaam) and for an F&B flavor prediction company (Gastrograph AFS). At DSPG, I also build dashboards to portray the analyses we did. I believe my strongest skillset is my ability to look at numbers and patterns and be excited to unearth whatever I can with them. I am an excellent person to work with because I love talking about anything under the sun, and I maintain a lot of interests outside my field of occupation. I am also a home Barista and enjoy discussing coffee brewing – always happy to make a cup for you and tell you all about it!
Hello! I am a software engineer with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, more than 10 years of experience and 10 professional certifications earned after a lot of study and hard work.
You can see several technologies in the above list but I personally prefer to work with anything related to the Rust Programming Language. Backend? Blockchain? Compilers? DevOps? Embedded? Mobile? I am totally onboard as long as you have a little bit of Rust involved.
I am a recent college graduate and I'm looking for a job. I can join immediately.
I'm interested in Compilers, C++, Static Analysis, Open Source, Web Development and I'm open to trying out something new.
I contributed to Carbon Language as part of Google Summer of Code 2023 and building quik.run along with my friend.
Most of my programming experience during college have been with TypeScript and since four months I’ve been writing code in C++ by working on improving the user facing output of carbon explorer as part of Google Summer of Code.
Read more about my GSoC contributions: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ilV5tV0wflvZ2Aph13uwiYA2...
Apart from that I'm also interested in Functional Programming (still in the early stages of learning it).
ML researcher/engineer looking to work on interesting and novel applications of ML. I have previous experience working as a Data Scientist at a NYC hedge fund and am familiar with the full data stack - acquiring, cleaning, analyzing, modeling and putting into production. I've just finished my Masters at the University of Cambridge, focused on ML and computational statistics. During my time there I published a paper: https://openreview.net/forum?id=cFtt9fU7YB6, and worked on a 9 month research project on probabilistic models for Riemannian manifolds for my thesis. I'm a quick learner, but am used to operating in fast-paced, pragmatic environments and getting results. I enjoy working on interesting open-ended problems in pretty much any setting!

- Business impact: always a business case to improve things with lower latency, higher availability, better scalability, lower operational costs. What some businesses really need is just a static webpage in Cloudfront: I want more.
- Corporate structure: a result-driven company that welcomes innovation.
- Technical mindset: bottom-up tech design, right tool for the right job. Client-oriented design. Revenue-oriented, it should matter from day 0. No abstraction is better than bad abstraction. Let free patterns emerge from organic growth.
- Technical landscape: data-intensive systems that can be relied upon, with strong business-relevant needs for performance, reliability, durability, and resilience.
- Team dynamics: engineers have and share areas of responsibility. No echo chamber or ivory-tower architect. We should all be collectively accountable for systems architecture.

I'm an engineer with many years of experience in Silicon Valley, working in management roles, engineering, and consulting. My expertise is mostly in back end systems, working in the modern Go/Docker/Kubernetes ecosystem. In addition to working directly on large and complex code projects I also managed and grew engineering teams at various companies.
If you need help with specific technical projects, or are looking for management roles please feel free to reach out. I'm very familiar with both the unique challenges of scaling up startups as well as working to innovate in large enterprise companies.
Specifically if you need help productizing and scaling out various AI/Machine Learning/LLM systems this would be a good fit. I know there is quite a bit of demand in this area and a limited supply of qualified candidates.
I have figured out a way of doing machine learning right. Turns out that all popular architectures are just instances of a more general approach. Infinite transformer window is possible. Attention is just a particular case of Hopf convolution. Verification is possible. Faster training, faster inference. Possibly interpretability. But it goes beyond transformers.
The machine learning process is analogous to renormalization from QFT which in retrospect makes sense.
My 2cents, if what your saying is true re attention and window sizing, then you could incorporate and then raise a tonne of money for a serious research outfit.
Why would you want to work for anyone else? You have the leverage apparently to do anything at this point - take it?!

I've spent over a decade solving complex business problems, often with software. I particularly enjoy finding opportunities where software can reclaim people’s time and free them for more meaningful endeavors. I also have an affinity for teaching, especially when it involves software craftsmanship.
My professional experience includes in a variety of programming languages, tech stacks, and associated ecosystems such as Clojure/Java, Elixir/Erlang, Python, Javascript/Node, Objective-C/Swift, and more. Given the choice I prefer simple solutions in Clojure, but I always try to use the best tool for the job.
For my next adventure, I'm looking for something in the climate solutions space. I would also consider other domains that are solving larger-scale "for the betterment of mankind" problems.
I'm a full stack software engineer with strong fundamentals in programming and web technologies. I enjoy thinking about system level details, networking, and data concerns. I consider myself a generalist when it comes to tech stack—I'm proficient in multiple stacks, and I enjoy picking up new tech to solve a specific problem.
I am confident working independently, but I also enjoy collaborating with a team. Most recently, I worked with 3 other engineers to develop a cloud native framework for testing microservice API integrations. If you want to know more, I authored a technical case study exploring the problem space and our solution: https://signet-framework.dev/case-study
I'm looking for a new opportunity—feel free to reach out if you think I may be a good fit for your team!

Hi all - I’m a former healthcare VC that’s working through a CS master’s degree at Penn with the ultimate goal of jumping into an engineering role. I'm scheduled to graduate in December 2023 and am looking for a full-time software engineering role starting January 2024.
I’ve interned as a SWE at Liberty Mutual, working on critical customer communication infrastructure (SMS, email, push) built in Typescript on AWS serverless architecture. This summer, I've redesigned one of our core services (archiving emails for legal compliance) to run 67% faster and have added highly-requested features to our SMS platform. Last year, I interned as a SWE with a data privacy startup called Kanary (an opportunity that was found here on HN!).
As a VC at Echo Health Ventures prior to grad school, I invested in healthcare delivery businesses like Dispatch Health, Genome Medical, Heartbeat Health, and TytoCare. I helped these businesses find product/market fit, scale operations into new markets and channels, and optimize their financial planning / fundraising. Before joining Echo I was a healthcare investment banker at J.P. Morgan.
Most of my experience thus far has been on the backend, and that's where my preference lies, but open to any/all opportunities to work on interesting problems.
Full-Stack Web Developer. Looking for Elixir/Phoenix work. 7+ years of professional experience working with various web technologies, mainly Python, Django and Svelte(Kit). Would be open for working with Python/Django/Svelte(Kit). Also open to work on frontend and/or backend only projects. Website refresh/new website projects is also something I'm interested in.

I'm a Software Engineer of ~6 years with a focus on Front-End Development, but moving towards Full-Stack in my day-to-day work. I’m passionate about delivering quality user experiences both on the UI and API level. I’m interested in fine tuning performance, and making sure that the development experience is just as great in my teams, as the user’s.
My main interests are healthcare products, and developer tooling / any tools that could be used during the development process. (Ex.: Task boards, CI, Design tools, and many more!). Open hearing any offers though. I have experience working with teams from early stage startups through companies collaborating between time zones, with large engineering teams.

A number of my colleagues and I are thinking of leaving the software development agency we work for. To be clear, this is an opportunity to hire a team, not individuals.
We're an experienced technical team, with lots of client-facing experience which means we're good at delivering value for money without compromising code quality, and we have experience delivering highly scalable systems. We've all worked in many tech stacks and domains - part of agency life is being able to deliver idiomatic code in a language you've never worked in before in a matter of weeks, not months. You name it, we've done it - whether that's C#, Kotlin, React, Python, SQL Server, or something else entirely. Lots of cloud experience as well, especially (but not exclusively) AWS.
If this is even potentially interesting to you, please get in touch. We're very open to initial conversations of any kind.
I'm a Full Stack Developer II with 2+ years of professional software development experience. Most of that time working with government clients.
I also graduated from an esteemed business school and previously worked as an Account Manager for some time where I demonstrated exceptional leadership skills by managing the entire lifecycle of client accounts through effective communication, managing interactions, and problem-solving.
I'm a seasoned web development expert with over a decade of experience helping companies take their products from concept to market delivery.
Over the past four years, I have been exclusively working remotely. Before that, I worked onsite in San Francisco and Berlin, collaborating with highly successful companies (one recently acquired for $7.1b).
My strengths are in front-end, UX, product development, but I also know my way around a back-end codebase. I have led multiple front-end teams and have also independently developed many products from scratch.
I'm a CS student at the University of Florida and I'll be graduating with my BS in December of 2023. I've interned at Charles Schwab on the Advisor Services (Institutional Investors) Databases team and currently work for an indie game studio founded by one of my classmates, Studio Koleman.
I enjoy low-level programming in C/C++ and most of my personal/school projects are either that or doing fun things with financial data in Python. I've used Linux/Unix extensively and I'm as comfortable in a shell session as I am on the Windows desktop. I am open to all kinds of work, but roles in either of these two areas would be ideal.
I am open to roles in Israel or in the USA, I'm a US citizen so I do not need a work authorization. I am open to relocation pretty much anywhere in either country with a strong preference for Denver, CO. I worked in Denver this past summer and I absolutely fell in love with Colorado. I'm willing to discuss other locations or remote.
I can begin work after graduation in January 2024, but I am also open to starting before graduation in a part-time/student capacity and then transitioning to FTE after graduation.
Here are some of things I have done for my previous employers, that I could be doing for you:
- Put all your services in containers, and make it easy to spin up development environments that resemble your production environment
- Package your SaaS into a virtual machine image that customers can self-host, and publish versions of it for all the major clouds and hypervisors
- Create Linux-based firmware for your embedded device, and work with the folks at the factory to get it flashed on the production line
- Reverse-engineer that weird binary that came in your board's BSP, and tell you exactly what it is doing and how to replicate it
- Write clever blog posts and technical articles about your products, which will explain how to use them while also being fun to read
- Lead a team of engineers, help them grow in their roles, and ship things
I love startups and greatly prefer them over working at a big company. I only work remotely, and I prefer to work for remote-first companies; I'm happy to meet up in person a few times a year, though. I'm a GitHub alumnus (from back before the acquisition) and have been a guest author for Linux Weekly News. I have an M.S. in Computer Science and over twenty years of industry experience. I live in the US Midwest, so I might be cheaper than you're expecting!

I've spent my 25 year engineering career building hosting platforms, JVMs and emulators - software platforms to host other people's code and make it run faster, more reliably, or more cheaply.
I co-founded and was CEO [1] of Bytemark, a British hosting company (2002-2018). I designed a flexible VM hosting platform [2] and storage layer [3] that is still in service today. I did some network automation and wrote a small BGPv4 implementation from specs [4]. Other work and past positions on the URL above!
My ideal is ≈30hrs/week employment (or contract work) from October 2023, for any company that needs an engineer for a high-margin in-house hosting platform. If it's particularly relevant to my experience, I'm happy to look at a smaller or short-term project.

Technologies: Angular, RxJS, React, Typescript, Javascript, Firebase, NodeJS, HTML/CSS, Sass, GIT, Cypress, (worked with React Native before), Last few months learning the backend with NestJS, Sequelize, and PostgreSQL (so frontend first, but can do smaller tasks on backend in this tech stack)
Hi, I am an experienced Developer (5 years professionally) with Masters in Computer Science. 3+ years working with Angular and RxJS, the rest of it is React and React Native. In addition to my developer experience, I am also a mentor in the company I work and write blog articles about RxJS, TypeScript, etc. Also, last year I held a lecture at an IT conference about that. I'm a largely-self taught Full-Stack developer with a focus on the Front-End/Design side of things. I've got ~6 years experience professionally programming. At my last position I went from Developer => Tech Lead in about a year and before I left was leading 5/6 teams without failure to deliver. Knowledgeable in 508 compliance and architecting entire projects/Working within departments to solve issues. I'm the kind of developer who asks a lot of questions to as many people as necessary to get the job done.
* Target: Share a job listing you're interested in.
* Output: Spence analyzes the job description, then refines your resume and crafts a cover letter, making sure both align closely with the job's requirements.
The main idea? Too many resumes get lost in automated systems or aren't tailored enough for the specific job. Spence helps bridge that gap by ensuring your documents are as relevant as possible to the position you're applying for.
Keen to hear your feedback, and if anyone's up for testing, I'm all ears. I'm also for hire.

Norwegian AI & (deep) Machine Learning expert with Robotics & Data Science background looking for the next job to crush it at. Preferable work would be relevant to Robotics or AI, but I am also deeply interested in simply contributing to and developing my Python and C++ skills in an exciting next opportunity. Current position at GE HealthCare: Data Scientist — Artificial Intelligence in Medical Ultrasound Imaging. I had to leave GE due to moving from Norway to Slovakia.
I want to really contribute to producing helpful and useful tools and products that people want, creating legitimate and tangible value for customers and colleagues.
I am a recent graduate with a Master's in Computer Science from University of Massachusetts Amherst, specializing in NLP and ML. I'm an experienced small company CTO, though I've worked at a director level in larger organizations. I'm still super hands on, especially in the data engineering space, but with back end in general.
I have a history of building great products with small teams. For example the data platform we built at Terapeak (see my LinkedIn profile) powers much of eBay seller price analytics today.
A lot of my consulting work in the last few years is helping companies that have PMF but are struggling to scale their product or their engineering team move faster.
I good at thinking out of the box, being customer focused in terms of my product thinking and knowing when to invest in areas of code (and when not to).
My startup isn't going to make it, and I'm looking to join a company that has already nailed product market fit. Small large is okay, as long as the focus is on building value rather than meetings and politics. I would be willing to consider IC roles or management roles, I'm trying to be open to the universe about what is next.
I'm extra interested in healthcare / biotech, though I know those are usually US only for legal reasons. Also energy startups.
I'm not interested in Adtech or social media.
Anything else I'm open to.
I'm looking for 300-400k CAD depending on the role and other benefits (which is about 225-300k USD).
Senior backend/fullstack developer w 8.5 years experience building distributed backends, internal tooling, and as an Apache Airflow maintainer/committer. Hello, World!
I am an experienced full stack developer currently pursing my master's in Computer Science at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
Here's my deal: I am young, I am just out of university, but I also have experience building distributed systems at scale. I understand the challenges but I also possess the passion and curiousity to give a 110% to my work. I am open to any and all industries.
I see myself as a jack of all trades with extensive experience with frontend, backend and platform engineering. I aim to use my engineering skills to build powerful applications for my users, and use the best technology for the job.
I'm posting here because I'm worried about the job board dice roll. Life needs to be longer to be a code monkey working for doomed software projects. Someone looking here is likelier to be interested in the craft of building software for fun and profit.
For example, yes, copy-pasta-driven programming can be helpful, but it brings baggage that is sure to sink the project, and if we do nothing about it, tech debt will quickly build up and make it feel like we're building elaborate sand castles atop of quicksand.
I have ten years of industry experience and with it I am almost certain I would be a benefit to any team. I am energetic, full of ideas, and laser-focused on good user experience through good engineering. I am motivated in particular to work on products that directly improve the lives of the people who use it. I'm looking for a senior-level role with opportunities to mentor other engineers and grow into more leadership and management, with good organizational support, as a next step.
Technologies: Python, PyTorch, Fairseq, Transformers, Machine
Learning, Deep Learning, NLP, Large Language Models, Model Quantization, GenerativeAI, AWS, GCP, HuggingFace, LangChain, Streamlit, Docker, Linux

Dear Hiring managers,
As a Machine Learning enthusiast, I hold a Master's degree from the University of California, Santa Cruz, specializing in natural language processing and researching core problem statements in AI. I also have over 3.5 years of experience in machine learning engineering, building ML solutions for teams from banking, insurance, healthcare, and many more industries.
I am actively looking for employers where I can use AI for good and make it available to people.
Looking forward to hearing from everyone!
Available for part-time or full-time contract work, preferably on a long-term basis, but I'm also available for smaller projects.
I am very flexible with my working hours (mostly working with clients from USA).
I am a backend developer with more than 9 years of professional experience mostly in the C# .NET stack. I don't shy away from the DevOps and DBA parts of the project either.
I also work through Toptal. My CV is available on my toptal profile and my website.

I founded and have run https://jsonip.com for about 13 years and have scaled it to currently support several million requests a day.
I have over 15 years of experience in web development at all levels of the stack, from DB and writing backend API's to full frontend implementations (think html/css/js, creating frontend frameworks, etc).
I'm very interested in some new challenges to tackle and grow my skill set.
In particular, I'm extremely interested in roles that involve building dev tools and improving the workflows of fellow engineers.
I've recently been working on ChatGPT/OpenAI projects.
I do not have some specific use case in mind. I am a backend developer who has spend around a decade mostly working on command line backend tools in Python and a bit in Go. Tools like scrapers, bots(Discord, TG etc), automation of trading strategies for both crypto and stocks, APIs integration and making its webfront in PHP and Python. You name it. Besides this I also have published my own Google Chrome extensions like Currently Reading[1], CryptInfo[2] and ProducTab [3]
Willing to relocate: yes but to Western Europe, the UK, Ireland, etc.

I am a data scientist with 3 years of experience in consulting. I am an excellent communicator and very much a people-person, and thrive in building rapport with stakeholders and explaining those technical concepts to non technical audiences. I also have over 8 years of non-commercial management and leadership experience.
I am largely looking for remote work, though I'm open to working in office in London or even relocating if required. My ideal role would be people-focused, through either managing people or managing projects, though I am of course open to more traditional data science / analyst roles too.
Remote: Hybrid, remote or in office (In order of preference)
Willing to relocate: No
Technologies: Full stack engineering with mostly Node and PHP. Application observability integrations (New Relic, Sentry, Posthog, etc.). A/B testing. High availability infrastructure management with Kubernetes and Docker. Linux administration. Engineering leadership.
Hi, I'm Jared Rapp. I have over 10 years of experience as a full stack engineer and nearly 4 years as a VP of engineering where I managed a team of 6 senior product engineers. At that role I worked directly with the leadership team to translate business objectives into engineering projects and then with my engineering team to bring them to life. Along the way I had the opportunity to present to the board of directors, pitch our company to potential acquirers, perform countless diligence exercises and ultimately navigate a bankruptcy process.
On the development side I'm just as happy writing software as I am hosting it, optimizing it or monitoring it for problems.
Most of my experience has been in online e-commerce which involved countless a/b tests, hundreds of marketing technology integrations, load testing and performance optimization (I hate Black Friday!). We also built some amazingly engaging experiences including a fashion crowdsourcing platform and a live streaming shopping experience where customers could chat with our staff as we launched new products daily. In a prior life I also built Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
I'm open to consulting, contracting, full or part time work.
I'm also open to pick-up basketball in San Francisco!
I'm currently a hands on Director of Technology for an NYC start up that has unfortunately had their business materially weaken. They're unable to keep me on past the end of September so I am looking for a new challenge. Backend/Cloud/DevOps--Nearing 20 years of professional IT and consulting experience with multiple Fortune 100 companies. A jack of all trades and incredibly quick learner--also very adept at leading and mentoring teammates.
My name is Zofia and I am looking for a new team to work on exciting software projects together. With my previous team (I loved) we worked on a Marketing Mix Modeling Tool they have been developing for many years in-house. They taught me how to work on their tool, I helped them to coordinate projects with other teams. I am looking for a similar role, where I would work with the dev team on client and technical projects. This is what I love and what I want to do.

Hi, I'm Istvan! I’ve been doing iOS development for 6+ years and web development (mainly frontend with some backend) for 4+ years.
- I’ve worked on various web and iOS projects both as a full-time dev & as a freelancer or independent developer
- I’ve built online and mobile games, worked on an e-commerce website and a voice based digital assistant, developed a web based AI chat app, built many portfolio sites & landing pages
- My main expertise is in frontend dev (web + iOS) but I built quite a few backends too for some freelance & personal projects
- I love to build things from scratch and make the critical architectural decisions for a new project & quickly bring a new idea to life
- I also love the challenge of joining a large project and having to figure out how everything works as quickly as I can. One of my recent projects was converting a 80k+ line JS project for a CAD-like web app to Typescript
- I focus on high quality code, maintainability and delivering results fast. I can take any project that I have the skills for but I’d love to work on something AI & LLM related.

Hi! I'm Conner, I've worked across a variety of technologies, but generally focusing on backend, cloud infrastructure, system design, pipelines, data engineering and visualization of data. I'm a bit of a generalist and interested in pretty much anything- if you are interested, feel free to reach out! I'd love to chat.
Resume: https://bit.ly/3B3o65M (It links to my CV repo at Github, pinky promise. You can also visit github.com/<hnusername>.)
I'm not actively looking (hence why my resume link is obfuscated like that) but I'm at least interested in getting a feel for the market right now. That said, I'm willing to consider a position with a great fit for my skill set and career goals.
Here's my pitch: I have experience in a multitude of industries and positions. From improving legacy infra and processes in an established telco company to scaling a fast-moving startup from 200K to 2M users. In my free time, I love writing Code That Is Poetry but day-to-day I am not an idealist engineer who doesn't compromise. Well-engineered code is clean and correct but correct above all else.
Oh, also, I'm great at writing documentation. I consider myself introverted but apparently my communication skills are above average for Software Engineers. I also pride myself on my humility and modesty.
I'd love to explore other technical positions in the games industry short of joining a AAA studio because (a) I don't want to crunch and (b) my skill set does not lay that way; other techo-creative industries would also appeal to me! Another particular interest is in B2C businesses where the 'C' is software developers. I'd love to chat and network about opportunities; if you think you have a product that could benefit from my skill set, drop me a line!

I am a recent graduate, who is currently in a graduate/trainee program as a "cloud devops engineer", but unfortunatly the company is not doing too well atm and I basically have no tasks to do, so I am worried that I will stagnate. I love learning new things and am always looking for new opportunities to learn from others. I have some project experience from my bachelor studies, a private project that I am currently working on and my work.
I interned for 1,5 years at a FAANG, but "only" in a product management role that did involve coding only occasionaly (but alot of SQL). Even though It was not the career path I wanted to chose, I appreciated working with brilliant minds and an international environment.

Willing to relocate: No (at least not for now).

I had a little break from work, but I'd like to get back into business. I've spent pretty much my entire career working on C++ projects. The last seven years I worked at Arm on Mali GPUs, focusing mainly on GPU Compute. I consider myself generalist and thus I'm okay working with any technology. I'm also a team player and I'm very flexible - I can pick up various roles (team lead, team manager, test manager, scrum master - been there, done that).
Hello! I'm Lewis Godowski, a software engineer with ~10 years of experience across iOS and backend. I find joy in dogs, desserts, and the small details of good design. I am a strong advocate for end users and their experience with a product.
Most recently, I was brought onto a new strategic business unit build to turnaround, manage, and lead an underperforming team of ~10 iOS engineers at a top 10 global motorcycle manufacturer. I had two main responsibilities I needed to balance: people management (upwards with product stakeholders, laterally with other pods and work streams, and downwards with my team) and doing some heavy lifting as an individual contributor. I created structure and improved hygiene in the team, codebase, and sprint/scrum life cycle, which stabilized our velocity and allowed us to find our rhythm and deliver on schedule.
Unfortunately, my current role has been transforming more and more into a business/digital consultant, which means a lot of working on slide decks and high-level architectures that never see the light of day. It's bumming me out and taking me away from what I really enjoy: writing code, learning new skills, and wearing multiple hats to solve problems.
Ideally, I'm looking for an iOS (or Vapor, a server-side Swift framework) role that lets me really flex my Swift expertise.
Position Types: Lead DevOps Engineer, DevOps Manager, SRE
Technologies: DevOps / Solutions Architecture / Cloud (AWS/Azure/GCP) / CI/CD, Kubernetes, Microservices, Containerization. Systems engineer doing DevOps for the last 8+ years. I have an eclectic background working with small and large stacks. Mostly focusing on CI/CD, cost analysis, SOC2/Compliance.
I am interested in a mission driven company looking to develop DevOps methodologies with the potential of building a team.
I have a PhD in computer engineering, specializing in operations research. I can translate all kinds of real-world problems into mathematical models that can be solved via integer programming, constraint programming, or other methods. I'm the father of four young children, so I'm looking for flexible/remote part-time work. I'm also open to contract work (see my comment in the "Freelancer? Seeking freelancer?" thread for more details).

Senior Software Engineering polyglot. My depth of knowledge comes from understanding larger context rather than knowing every detail of a particular technology, language, or framework.
I like a team that doesn’t mind sharing knowledge, and admitting that none of us are perfectly knowledgeable about any of this software business. If you can’t admit a mistake, or want to horde knowledge, then you you have some growing to do.
Knowledge sharing also applies to The Business side of a company - please freely explain the acronym of the week and offer to go deeper with the software creators that show interest.
I was responsible for bootstrapping arm64 at Uber[1] and no longer work there. I am ready to consult companies who are considering or have just started onboarding to arm64 (and running into issues). I am open to strategic, technical advise and hands-on as necessary.

I am employed full-time, and right now I am looking for some additional part-time projects.
I bring 8 years of full-stack software engineering knowledge and experience (in enterprise) with me, mostly in the tech stacks listed on my resume. I'm a junior backend engineer, with excellent social/relational skills. My technical chops probably aren't as good as those of more experienced developers, although I'm good enough for my current job, and I do work on improving daily. I'd like to work remotely so as to be able to travel more, and hopeful learn a different set of skills than the one I'm currently learning at my current job in a large web hosting and cloud computing company. Senior Software Engineer with over 15 years experience writing quality software looking for challenging problems to solve. I’ve led teams, written architecture documents, built critical business software used by 1,000,000+ humans, and love solidifying vague ideas into products people love.
Graduated with a certificate on MIT from Emobilis Training institute then pursued a diploma in computer science and am currently continuing with my bachelors degree. Am open to full-time or internship remote jobs that would help me build my experience. I have no professional experience but i have worked on personal projects as well as group projects from our schools Google Developer Student Club

I'm fluent in several programming languages. For the last 10 years I have been working professionally with backends, but I'm also familiar with JS and frontends as well.
Senior Software Engineer in the games industry with heaps of C++ experience, most recently focusing on UI but with some gameplay roles in the past.
Generally I'd be applying to other game roles, but I've never worked outside of games and I'm curious to know whether these sort of skills I've accumulated are of any interest to some non-games companies.
If anyone needs someone who can write C++ code on a constrained platform environment where performance really matters, where experience doing lots of optimization is needed, where 3D math is useful, where a knowledge of good UI practices is a bonus, that all might be something I can help with.
Location: Vancouver, Canada Remote: Yes please, but am somewhat flexible regarding intermittent travel
Willing to Relocate: If I feel quite secure in that move as on overall opportunity rather than just moving arbitrarily to be on-site. It's not impossible, but I quite like it here.
Technologies: JavaScript, TypeScript, Vue, React, Node (largely in-support of frontend build tooling), Angular.js 1.x (ideally only in terms of migrating to something else), Golang (minimal, mostly experimental), Swift/SwiftUI for macOS, GitHub/Jira, Docker, Python (Bit of Django, Flask, etc.. not expert)
I’m a software engineer (mostly frontend web) based out of Vancouver on the west coast of Canada who was laid off a few months ago after the acquisition of the smart building platform startup (Envio Systems) by JLL inc (the same one on all the “for lease” signs in your downtown area). I spent much of my year and half there on a small team working to improve the existing legacy Angular 1.x dashboard application by improving design responsiveness, introducing TypeScript, migrating components to React, and services to Axios/Redux. We used GitHub Actions for code reviewing and test running, Jira for project management, and Slack for communications, and worked across some difficult timezones remotely.
Since then I’ve been enjoying the time off, working on a mac app in Swift and SwiftUI, as well as taking my time with looking for a new role, ideally on a small team where I can either continue as an individual contributor or something slightly higher-level, in a capacity that is challenging and requires the exploration of new systems, but in no specific domain. I enjoy iterative processes, lean development lifecycles, learning new codebases, and experimenting with developer tooling and build systems that reduce the latency in feedback loops, like Vite.

My name is Brandon, I'm a backend + platform developer with a little over 5 years of experience.
Most of that experience has been in "big data" SaaS platforms (most recently Datadog), but I'm happy to ditch the fancy stuff and just bring whatever pieces are most needed for a small or growing business -- while also being familiar with that fancy stuff, so we can know when we might need it. I've ranged all over the stack at each place I've worked so far -- data processing pipelines, workflow management, CI/CD, API frameworks, RPC, databases both transactional and analytical, AWS/GCP/Azure, and tons of observability of course. I'm versatile, learn new things fast, and I love to pitch in wherever help is needed (especially when things are on fire)!
Most importantly -- I care deeply not only about the quality of the work I do but also about my coworkers, and I strive to be awesome to work with and create a really open and psychologically safe environment. A work culture everyone can feel good about is my number-one priority.
In terms of what I'm looking for -- ideally a small/new company with less than 20 or so developers. Pluses for me would include an office where people work in person and an emphasis on sustainability/profitability (compared to just gobbling up investor money).
If you want to get to know me a little better before reaching out, feel free to check out my blog, I tend to post roughly 50/50 about technical stuff and work-culture stuff:

I've been a technical co-founder on two startups. I also worked for Techstars and had a startup in Stanford's StartX. Open to all opportunities but would love to find a fractional role 10-20 hours / week.
I have been working as Full Stack Software Engineer for around 3 years now. I am a fast learner and recently I have been interested in learning more about CS (like compilers and networking). You will be able to find some examples of these in my Resume.
I am an hardware maintenace Engineer turned web developer. Worked with a 2 person startup for about a year with high levels of context switching. Any leads appreciated. Thanks in Advance.

I'm an experienced polyglot IT professional, software developer, trouble shooter, researcher, public speaker, educator, writer and publisher, founder and small business owner, podcaster, and licensed radio amateur. I work remotely from my home-office in Perth, Western Australia, UTC+8.
My experience with data started with the Dutch equivalent of Medicare when I was an intern, trusted with access to 20 million health records, a VAX/VMS cluster and a copy of SPSS. Since then I've built and used databases in many different contexts, from dBase (and Clipper) to MySQL (and MariaDB), from Oracle to MS-SQL, PostgreSQL and SQLite.
I've built standalone and web-based applications and lost count of how many once-off tools I've written to convert one data-set into another. I've built visualisations in R, Tableau, QuickSight, D3.js, gnuplot and Graphviz for clients around the globe. I've created mapping systems, won several Hackathons, and most recently, in a project lasting 44 months, investigated 300,000 lines of source-code, generating several terabytes of data. I'm familiar with AWS, Linux, and Open Source, am a public speaker, have produced a popular technical podcast about amateur radio for over 12 years and have conducted about 1,800 radio interviews, most of them live to air.
Whilst actively looking for the next opportunity, I'm analysing a five billion row data-set for HF Radio propagation, building a word-cloud based search engine to tag data, revising the eBooks I've published and I'm exploring how Morse code evolved to deal with the physical phenomenon of dispersion. For self-education I've been building some M/L models to classify data.
If you're into resolving odd and complex problems, need someone with dedication and tenacity, and believe that "Social Good" is an important attribute to cultivate, get in touch!

I've been a software engineer for 15+ years, and so have a wide range of projects I've worked on, both coding from scratch and leading teams of devs. To name a few: I built a multi-modal journey planner in C++ https://www.iomob.net/technology/, a machine learning platform in Python http://mmb.irbbarcelona.org/PMut, a math high school contests site with Django https://www.contrarellotge.cat.
I already linked my Github profile earlier, but if you want to see some code I wrote, here is a video where I explain some Python and C++ code I wrote for the hardest problem of last year's Advent of Code: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8jUMwnBQEU

FT?: Open to FTE for right opportunity, very open to contracts, especially if they can fluctuate between PT/FT, or are contract to hire. (Looking at fall/win ter start)
Senior full-stack dev (lean more towards devops->backend than backend->frontend, but I can still sling some React components together and reduce your JS payload size). Lately I've been loving Stimulus Reflex and playing with a lot of micropython/ESP32/IoT stuff.
I excel at figuring out how to solve problems at all levels of abstraction (including what level of abstraction you should use), getting a solution in place, and then figuring out the feedback loops to iterate on that solution. I'm the senior engineer that knows that most coding is coming to an understanding of what problem you are trying to solve. Sometimes the most impactful code is the code you don't write.
Trying to change the world, still parsing the source code. I've been programming on the web since 1995, had a first career as a social worker and policy statistician, and have worked full-time as a programmer for almost a decade now.
Especially enjoy API and system design, integrating with crappy systems, user research, and really weird bugs. Make a decent PM in a pinch, but would prefer you have great PMs.
Will give you more looks if you can tell me why what you are doing makes the world better, but you've got to really believe it in your heart.
Technologies: Go/Golang (preferred, most recent), Python & Java (decade+ FT each), C (decade+, once my fav, now only for money), web dev, SQL, git, Linux, Docker, cloud hosting, distributed systems, threading, performance & scalability, some ML (plain old math & queries, Bayesian models/inference, OLS regression, game actor behavior & data-driven strategy & real-time planning models, not yet modern neural nets but read about & can pickup fast when wished)
decades of programming. solid computing system fundamentals. problem solving. brainstorming. prototyping. communication. technical team lead. software architect. SRE-ish. solved hard legacy bugs & shipped over and over again. author of cheatsheet on Software Performance & Scalability. former Orbitz senior engineer on core tech (JVM, perf, ops.) Tech research, due diligence and consulting for US State Dept, to help bolster national/allied public APD defenses. Indie game engine & personal tool creator since childhood. built & ran small computer game biz years ago. Wrote, shipped & sold a zombie apocalypse sim a decade ago, directly to the public.
For a recent client I did (de facto) sys programming R&D on mem alloc latency and SEGV resilience, in C for Linux/POSIX, delivering new code, benchmarks, a diagram and a report successfully demonstrating how to upgrade the performance and uptime of their near-RT revenue-sensitive ad-bidding backend
Lately have 2 side projects:
* building a real-time Rogue-like edu/adver-game (homegrown engine in Go) about dire threats to democracy & climate
* writing a book on performance & scalability (in public view in my GitHub)
Challenge me! Give me hard problems. Or let me pioneer or bootstrap a new codebase. Treat me as a very senior and experienced, professional engineer. Use my time efficiently. Let me deliver the BIGGEST bang for the buck, for you, that I can. Life is short.
I do have a "No Jerks" rule. And I prioritize on folks who demonstrate how much they value me (not necessarily in $) -- I'll match you in return. I look for culture and personality fit early. Fan of Getting Real
Résumé / CV / Portfolio: Full CV and details of Open Source contributions available on request

I'm a Backend Python Developer with 9 years of experience building web app backends and APIs. I also have decent experience working on Web Scraping. Have been working on Open source applications. I’m looking for a permanent or contract remote position as a backend/fullstack developer.
Hi, I'm Nat. I've previously worked as a marketing and visual designer for Fast and several other startups in Silicon Valley. Recently, I decided to establish an affordable design subscription service for those who need professional design work but aren't yet ready to hire a full-time designer. With a monthly subscription, I commit to focusing on creating stunning designs that elevate your product. No fuss, just great design.
I'm a senior full-stack software engineer based in West Palm Beach, FL. Most recently, I was the lead architect and developer of Fortuna, a highly available and fault-tolerant open-source Ethereum transfer event ingestor used to keep track of all ERC20, ERC721, and ERC1155 transfer events and token metadata since genesis. It ingests, calculates, stores, and serves terabytes of data. https://github.com/upstreamapp/fortuna.
I'm also the co-creator of Campion, https://campion-breaker.github.io, an edge-based serverless middleware for implementing circuit-breaking functionality for distributed services.
Hi. I'm Craig. I'm an experienced Senior Software Engineer, Systems Architect and Microsoft Certified Professional with a passion for software development.
I work primarily, but not exclusively, with Microsoft technologies and the .NET / .NET Core frameworks, leading complex and challenging enterprise software development projects to successfully deliver robust, secure, scalable and efficient software solutions, encompassing over 20 years of experience in the field.
An accomplished team leader, mentor and architect, I'm skilled at taking a leading role in the overall architecture of a project, in driving team developments and employing proven industry disciplines and best-practices to deliver successful software projects that frequently exceed client expectations.
I'm passionate about distributed systems design, CQRS and event sourcing and a proponent of domain-driven design to ensure that solutions are laser-focused on solving real business problems. I'm an open source enthusiast and advocate using the best and most appropriate tools available, providing for an effective and pragmatic solution that delivers genuine and quantifiable business value.
Throughout my career I've helped numerous businesses of varying sizes in varying industries get their technology investment right and I can do the same for you.
Recent projects include:
+ Successfully delivered large section of an ambitious project to re-engineer a number of monolithic applications to cloud-native, event-driven distributed services for a leading hospitality software provider as part of a company-wide effort to modernise entire software estate including training and mentoring staff on event-driven architecture and distributed system design.
+ Successfully designed & delivered large, global SaaS product to manage and automate music royalty collection and payment for one of the UK's largest and most demanding independent music publishers including full cloud geo-distribution & redundancy to ensure high availability & reliability for the worldwide client base.
+ Successfully lead project to develop industry leading anti-motor fraud web application and API with advanced OLAP & OLTP system and data warehouse including one of Europe's largest anti-fraud databases for a Top 40 UK law firm.
+ Successfully lead project to deliver a market-leading, best-of-breed corporate travel management web & desktop-based product suite for a company who, largely as a result of the technology, were later acquired in a multi-million pound deal.
Technologies: Custom Supercomputers (always cheaper than existing hardware, especially Wafer Scale Integration running on solar, starting at $100K but $500 for 10000 cores in mass production), P4/openflow programmable terabit linespeed routers, custom chip design and IP, custom terabit optical internet and solar battery energy providers, EV chargers and datacenters, Ometa, DSLs, Smalltalk and other late bound encapsulating object languages, massively parallel distributed message passing VM's, compilation and load balancing adaptive JIT compiling to bare metal, FPGA, ASIC and wafer scale integration, million core reconfigurable processors. Single app program bit-identical VM software, deploy on most platforms with native GUI.
Cheap independent scientist and inventor, can do research on demand and publish papers
I built the first internet provider, built chips, built the next generation Enernet (decentralized peer-to-peer internet for Energy).
Its faster to have an interactive chat than for me to write about our methodologies, list all my skills and predict what our community of scientist and programmers can do for your startup or company.
Instead of writing your startup's core app with legacy software libraries and deploy it on an expensive cloud, I will prove to you we can write and deploy the whole system cheaper and faster (time-to-market) on custom hardware saving you millions per year each year thereafter, all for a fee of $100K-$200K for your entire (software) product. Remember that 85% of the cost of software is incured after its deployed to customers. We just integrate with your team to bring you these savings.
We built entire software and hardware systems from scratch because that is faster, cheaper and quicker time-to-market than using legacy operating systems, languages and platforms, as described by Alan Kay in the YCombinator Startupschool lectures at Stanford part I and II: https://youtu.be/1e8VZlPBx_0?si=0RAxU0DXkXUOGyPy and an in-depth example and demo from my peers https://vimeo.com/82301919
- Familiar (Use most months): ElasticSearch, CloudSearch, Tailwind, Vue
- Hobbies (Used on at least one completed project over the past five years): Go, Zig, C, C++, Rust, Phoenix, NoSQL, MongoDB, (probably more, but these were the ones that came to mind.)
My day job has me performing two main functions:
- Building full stack web development systems. I generally lean more towards writing backend code, and documenting our infrastructure. UI is my weakest area. This role has me working in datasets with ~1 billion row tables, and search indexes with ~100 million documents. Since we're a small company (~8 developers), I have been a major part of the architecture of our systems over the past 8 years. We've got five separate core businesses that our dev team supports, and I've been a part of architecting and implementing all of them. I would prefer to focus more on backend development in a future role.
- Creating one-off scripts or processes to assist in business functions. These tend to involve quickly reverse engineering undocumented web APIs we have permission to use, and querying them for our customers. At their simplest, these are a mix of writing some SQL and a few HTTP requests. At their most complicated, they have involved designing and implementing a tree structure to accurately model the business domain, and then pulling data about these structures from relevant public APIs.
- This month, I reduced the cost of a company's AWS CloudSearch spend by 80% (over 10k/month) by reviewing their codebase, doing some reasearch, and improving what they were storing and how they were doing so. This required a one-line code change on the existing codebase, and writing a new, short (~500 line) indexer. Doing a deep dive into the single highest AWS line item was the impetus for the project, and frankly, it turned out far better than expected.
Outside of work, I run https://www.thiswebsitewillselfdestruct.com, a website I built and maintain. It really will self-destruct, and it reaches ~100k users and handles ~13M requests each month. Building tools and infrastructure to manage its moderation and keep it a positive community has been a huge learning experience.
I'm open to writing gigs, either technical writing or business/finance-related stuff. I have 5+ years of experience in professional writing. I run a fairly popular tech/finance blog -- https://thetechee.com/ -- but enjoy writing for others too.
I have 5+ years of experience at early-stage startups, most recently at a legal tech startup I cofounded. I am mostly back-end, but competent at writing front-end JavaScript/TypeScript.
Currently building an app that uses LLMs to query NY State Court dockets and contributing to legal tech open source.
Cheers, Rich.
