Ask HN: Why there's no “grow taller” startup?

Grow taller is not a controversial goal and growth can be resumed because previous knowledge of growth plate was flawed.

Why there isn't a startup which can resume skeletal growth.

So there isn't several billion dollar in funding to such a problem which huge proportion of people suffer from?

You can raise billions of dollars from general public alone if you promise you can develop such drug or treatment in a decade.

I really think you're wrong about this not being controversial. Yes, a lot of people will want it, but there will definitely be ethical objections, medical objections, social issues, etc. for anyone using a drug to increase height.

Aside from that, the amount of people who are willing to take the side effects of growing is not going to be that large. I think most short cisgender men aren't actually insecure enough about it to take medication for their height. Then you're going to have to develop therapy to make sure that people are able to deal with the psychological aspect of continuing to feel insecure despite improvements in appearance, like they do with extreme weight loss or plastic surgery.

If someone did successfully create a product to increase height, it would create a lot of people who realize they are insecure about everything else after they get taller lol

Theranos made a similar promise about blood tests, but it didn't end well.

Has this been tested in animals, showing that the growth can be resumed and then stopped without going out of control into a disease like Acromegaly? [1]

I should add that if this were safe I could envision body builders doing this even if they were already big. They seem to be willing to do just about anything to get that edge on others.

Limb lengthening is painful surgery and does nothing for your hands and other things.

We should be able to just resume and puberty like process, which again resumes growth in body.

I don't think anyone would want to take responsibility for modifying human life like that, lest they turn out like the OceanGate CEO...

I think this use of "suffer" is kind of silly. Outside of actual dwarfism, is it really "suffering" to just wish you were taller?
