The Chinese concern about Airdrop may sound funny. But every government should be scared of Google and Apple (and other BigTech) trying to create a mesh network with their mobile OS that can bypass their telecom infrastructure. I was really outraged when Apple decided that it is fine to use every iPhone in the world to track its AirTags - the arrogance in feeling this comfortable in violating our privacy and also (ab)using our Bluetooth or Wifi or mobile network for its own commercial benefits needs a strong backlash from the consumers.
