Hynek Schlawack - Creator of attrs library - has a really good thread arguing that the current process is going to lead to this being abandoned: https://fosstodon.org/@hynek@mastodon.social/110490910474469...

IMHO this is a real shame if it is abandoned, Sam's work is incredible and the community should be jumping through hoops to try and find a way forward. The lack of motivation from some of the core Python developers to try and find solutions to the concerns is a real shame.

At the same time very minor (not bad, just not as important) PEPs are accepted all the time, particularly regarding type hints and module magic methods. I love the "new python" with the type hints, but in retrospect more effort should have been spent upfront rather than piecing it together as it seems now

Well in fairness from reading the thread, it seems like it competes with some of their own pet projects. It also does have some real transition risks. That said, I don't see why Apple-style fat binaries can't solve those.

Release what you got, don't worry about the decisions of the Language Lords.

"Governance" exists to prevent things being done.

Should be titled "Python Steering Committee unable/unwilling to provide clear acceptance criteria or timeline for PEP 703".

A quick no is almost always better than a slow maybe
