I’m not sure which defaults you mean right off, but the best place to start is honestly YouTube. I built Wordpress sites for a few years. Before anything, I watched demos on YouTube to learn how. I will say, you can get yourself an established builder like Divi and have a pretty easy time creating content as a beginner.
