Google seems to be focused on reinforcing their brand by killing stuff, even if it just costs pennies to maintain, and despite they'd even have the money to wait all other competitors out, without blinking.
And they repeat this over and over, the only exception - to my knowledge - being google cloud. Does anyone know why they do this? And why do intelligent engineers stay under that leadership? Is money the only motivator?
To be honest, while I know it's a complete ripoff, I find it much better and informative compared to reels (I don't know how it compares to TikTok as I've never used it).
I am not a fan of the format in general but over time I've found some funny and interesting Shorts, they are not as inherently repulsive to me as they once were.
The problem is content really, endless TikTok reposts and even if original, utterly vapid content or subject matter. I can understand why the format caught on but I can't imagine endlessly consuming it as many seem to be doing if TikTok usage numbers are to be believed.
For a second, I thought this was about YouTube Shorts and I was like "hmmmm why are they killing their successful product which I hate?". Then I read your comment and re-read the title.
