Hi HN,
Recently, OpenAI has begun cracking down on the usage of "GPT" as part of startup names, citing it as a violation of their brand guidelines. This is being enforced by a company called BrandShield, who argue that this naming strategy can lead to consumer confusion.
An example of a company affected by this is SiteGPT.ai. The use of "GPT" in the name served to communicate clearly the nature of the startup - a fact reflected by their impressive growth rate. In less than a month, SiteGPT was able to achieve a $10k MRR, significantly outperforming competitors such as getchunky.io or chatbase.co.
However, in light of OpenAI's new policy, it seems we'll need to rethink our naming strategies. I'm curious about the you all's thoughts on alternative labels for GPT-inspired tooling. Here are a few of my own ideas:
* LLM: SiteLLM - LLM, probably too technical?
* Bot: SiteBot - Inspired by chatbots, maybe people will confuse it with incumbent tech?
* Agent: SiteAgent - Inspired by LangChain agents, maybe too technical?
Let's brainstorm together to create effective, compliant branding for our AI startups.
