Why not just use a real text file and edit with a regular notepad/gedit/nano?

Ultimately, I just wanted to make something that was closer to a plaintext file than something like org-mode, but with some small additions per my own preferences (colors, variables, auto-bulleting, etc).

The side project ended up being a single-file HTML file I could throw into a browser tab, so I decided to put it up and share on GitHub :)

That's the point, this is a real text file. When you press download you just get a template.

It’s not though, It’s a web page accessed using a browser with js/css in between that’s made to seem like a simple text file

Yes. Though, the crazy thing is, a lot of things are in fact easier but not done with resources well spent (on global scale, not personal).

Related: I read the other day — and only then realized the full absurdity of it — about how if we want to a share a file quickly between two devices in the same room, for most people (non-tech / -devs) the fastest way would go through a server on the other side of the planet.

https://toffeeshare.com is a great webrtc based file sharing app. (I am not the author). I've used it to great effect though.

As long as everyone is on Android there's nearby share now, and Apple has AirDrop, so it's getting better. Still absurd though.

move the task down and refresh! to see it change color. Don't do what I did and try to see if %check% does this automatically.

There should be an option to load a txt file.
