The Superusers Behind IMDB, the Internet’s Favorite Movie Site (wired.com)

There used to be a very valuable feature, before Amazon took over, which was the discussion forums that ordinary movie viewers could participate in. It added a huge amount of flavor and insight into individual movies, much more than the mostly sterile FAQ and trivia sections they have today. But it did require a human moderator to keep out the trash posts, so of course Amazon couldn't afford that.

That was the best feature of IMDb imo, the forums were a goldmine of information and recommendations that to this day are unparalleled elsewhere. It's a pity that Amazon took what was once a great site and turned it into a corporate ghost land.
