We need criminal charges for companies that lie to consumers about the data they collect and for companies that expose users to massive privacy violations. Things like secretly performing facial recognition and stealing images from people's cameras are not accidents.

I struggle to keep track off all the garbage products and shitty companies I need to avoid, and that's just the ones where I happen to catch word of their offending behavior. Who knows how much stuff I already have is being deceptive about what they collect, not me, because scouring the internet every few months for every product I own is an excessive burden that shouldn't be necessary. I stopped bothering years ago. Now, I simply assume that they're all lying scum. Enough of them are that it's not a terrible bet. So, I don't buy or use products that require the use of any third party servers, and be sure to firewall off any that have network access.
