Ask HN: How do you go about getting legal advice for a business/startup?

Not asking for legal advice but am asking "how to get" legal advice. Checked out the services from Legal Zoom and it seems like they're, among many thing, a Legal as a Service type platform where you pay a subscription and can access help when necessary.

I'm currently just seeking an initial consultation type thing and have a list of questions to get legal guidance (go/no-go) on - as opposed to seeking out long term help (but that would be nice maybe in the future).

Should one seek a law office in their local area and just start asking?

What are the other alternatives and are there pros/cons to things?

Thanks for any advice/tips

There isn't one uniform set of things you'll need advice on typically, thus you will likely need different lawyers. I think that my last big project probably used about 10 different lawyer and legal service firms over as many years from routine administrative and specialist tax advice (employee options and government tax incentives) through to patent specialists.

Maybe talk to organisations that help start-ups (local government, accelerators/incubators, etc) and people ahead of you on the start-up journey, and mentors.
