> OpenAI is a non-profit artificial intelligence research company. Our goal is to advance digital intelligence in the way that is most likely to benefit humanity as a whole, unconstrained by a need to generate financial return. Since our research is free from financial obligations, we can better focus on a positive human impact.
Let's just say that their goals have obviously changed.
edit: As with SBF, longtermism provides an excellent cover.
Its genius marketing honestly. What other company has basically entire 3rd party subreddits dedicated to defending their products as if its an epoch-defining moment? People will pay whatever for it out of a delusion of moral necessity at this point.
That figure really is eye watering like Sam said. Any chance we might be able to reduce that cost? It must be the power costs right? The hardware is one time cost I assume. Why not power it over renewables?
I agree that OpenAI's mission statement has always been complete horseshit, but they need to generate revenue eventually or they will run out of money.
It's not like they're going to use any of that additional revenue to suddenly start achieving their original mission. So they won't accomplish the stated mission either way.
