Most of these tips are not truly about survival, and reasonably so given the lack of any practical experience in most people, but surviving just long enough to be rescued. The unstated implication being death is not far off.

I found Jack London's story so compelling as a kid when I read it. Perhaps it was because I grew up in snowy, cold winter part of the country. Maybe that's why I have around a dozen books on survival, living off the land, tracking, nuclear bomb shelters, etc.
