An infusion of tech talent into legacy companies would improve the US economy (uxdesign.cc)

Not only legacy companies, but also newer companies outside the typically IT-heavy sectors could benefit a lot from an influx of devs. If they have established a process that gives them stable revenue, investing to improve that process with the help of IT is a low-hanging fruit: Analyse the process where IT can optimize the time spent for a task or improve the quality of its outcome or enhance the decision makers with more information. Prioritize the list of possible improvements according to effort/outcome ratio and time-to-implementation estimations. The top of the list should usually consist of things where the implementation effort pays for itself quite quickly. It is just that managers in such sectors, especially in smaller companies, often seem unaware of the potential for optimisation because they only have vague ideas about IT beyond the standard office applications.

Sorry but I'm not volunteering. I tried a contract with an old legacy company. It was misery. Being the only person in the room keeping up with technology, made every change to move them forward into agony.

I bailed after 6 months.
