> "The Austrian government is doing this very reluctantly but, as the chancellor has explained, he has few other options,”

Show me one place where high uptake of the shots has ended the COVID crisis. How many people is sufficient? 70%? 90%? 130%?

Why are they mandating the shots in February instead of now? By the time widespread protection kicks in it'll be the end of March, most likely past the natural end of the crisis. If they're going to trash everyone's rights, at least make it effective. Are they braindead?

> “If others have a better idea, they should say what it is..."

Yeah, like we didn't know that winter would bring in a surge of hospitalizations. How about promoting and giving away vitamin D supplements during autumn? That alone would have prevented thousands of hospitalizations and probably avoided the entire crisis. Why haven't they worked on healthcare infrastructure during the summer to help it deal with the coming surge? Why are indoor spaces still not ventilated? Why are they changing the rules every week? Do they have any actual idea of what the fuck they're doing?

To claim success https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/austria/#g...

Do you think they're timing it like that on purpose?

Portugal is doing quite fine. Let's see what happens over the winter.

> If they're going to trash everyone's rights

The right to remain unvaccinated? Give me a break.

Citation needed.

Are you living in Austria? If yes, you should know that the current Covid crisis has been caused by irresponsible politicians and could have been avoided easily. Some of the things you list are not wrong, but they are far from the full picture.

Give you a break? Listen, I'm sorry but at this point all I'm going to say to you is: Nichts towarisch. Give me your watch.

> Nichts towarisch

What is this supposed to mean? :-D

It's a reference to something a Russian soldier said to a civilian in Berlin after it fell to allied forces in WW2. Some Berliners, who stayed in Berlin throughout the war, thought they could show that they weren't fascist supporters by calling out "Towarisch!" (another word for comrade) to the Red Army who were entering the city. Instead of being greeted back, they were laughed at then robbed. Basically it means we are not friends, and you'll get no sympathy from me after this is all over.

Ok. Haven't heard this phrase before. Google didn't give me any results, either.

> Basically it means we are not friends, and you'll get no sympathy from me after this is all over.

Where did I ask for your sympathy? Have a nice day! Or in good old Viennese: Heast, schleich di.

Government is reactionary. And slow.

my initial other post[1] got auto-banned and I'm assuming it's because it pointed to a non English source. So I'm reposting this from an English language source. Apologies ...

If you're getting comments on a post, it's not banned. On the other hand, it has more comments than upvotes, so it's not going to rank very highly.

Can Austrians now apply as refugees to other EU countries?

Only if vaccinated!

It doesn't seem to say what exactly they are going to do to force people to vaccinate. Swat their homes? LOck them in those jail chairs they use in China?

Fines. If you refuse to pay, you go to jail.

Can you pay the fine and then not vaccinate? Or will they keep fining you?

That's a good question indeed. You're not the first one to ask this :-) I hope they will fine repeatedly. Everything else would be pointless.

Hey, if it stops people from killing themselves and the people around them, I am all for it.
