Tesla recalls nearly 12,000 US vehicles over software glitch (theguardian.com)

When I hear recall, it makes me picture having to bring my vehicle in to have work done on it. There really needs to be a new name to better describe an over-the-air software update.

This recall is basically just a formality, since the actual fix has already long since been rolled out OTA to all of the affected cars.

To clarify, in this case "long since" means 8 days ago.

> On 25 October, Tesla began deploying the over-the-air software update and re-enabled FCW and AEB features on vehicles with the update.

I think the point is that OTA updates don't grant an automaker immunity from the scrutiny that recalls create.

When the timeline from "problem first appeared" to "problem is fixed in all cars" was less than 2 days, then I'd say 8 days later for a recall is a long time.
