From a management and information security perspective this seems like an extremely stupid idea. Depends on the kind of data of course.


I presume it's all encrypted large data stores anyway – otherwise rowhammer, spectre, meltdown and friends would be really rather substantial.

Moreover, I just don't understand why. If you're going to spend half a billion on an AWS bill, you can probably afford to run a datacentre locally (and use the waste heat to warm British homes at least!)


Thank God, the spooks aren't spying but buying. So Amazon isn't cheated out of its valuable data. Not to think, spied private data would be lost to an employee of the secret services at a bus stop and fell into the wrong hands.

One worry less about privacy...
