Arguably the biggest "hack" in Bitcoin history was the exploit of an overflow bug, allowing for the creation of 184 billion BTC: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Value_overflow_incident

It is also arguable, however, that this is not part of Bitcoin's history at all. :)


These aren't bitcoin hacks. I would consider these bitcoin ecosystem hacks.


This list fails to include the biggest, most important hack. The one where they stole the BTC ticker:

Is anything in crypto world history? I thought something had to be a few decades old to be considered historic.


Why? Yesterday is history.


It is worth noting that one year in crypto is probably equal to 10 years in most other industries. At least with respect to the rate of technological and intra-cultural changes.


This story is false on the surface. The bitcoin blockchain has never been hacked, altered, or exploited in any way.

Never.

It is always possible to get someone's key (if they still have it). That is not hacking. That is social or legal engineering.
