Hey HN! nezaj (my cofounder) and I are both hackers and fitness enthusiasts. We’ve built a bunch of fitness tools. I once hired someone to help me log food. Joe built his own dashboard to track his diet (just crossed 1 year of tracking now!) https://joelogs.com. Together we built an app to export Apple health data — https://exporthealth.app.
We’re on a mission to get six-pack abs, and want to invite you to join us.
Two months ago, Joe started an accountability group with our friend Jan. Every week, they share their progress and make adjustments accordingly. Jan noticed this was the most progress he made since COVID. I joined a few weeks later, and I am currently the leanest I’ve been in over 2 years.
We thought, what if we got more people into this? If we can find a recipe to help others get six-packs, we’ll build an app to scale it out and turn Consistent into a company. The north-star vision would be to create a “personal fitness and diet coach, at scale” think Noom for advanced fitness with better tech :)
The first version is going to be high-touch / low-tech and look like a Slack community that helps each-other get six packs over the next 3 months. We start Sunday, June 27th and end Sunday, September 19th. It will work like this:
1. Everyone will log in MyFitnessPal
2. There will be a slack group where we post updates, and are available to support each-other (in changing diet, picking workouts, etc)
The first cohort is free (you will need to pay for a MyFitnessPal premium account though, which is $20 a month). There is a catch though. You’ll have to treat this as one of your top 3 priorities for the next 3 months — you’ll need to consistently log your food, and strive to eat clean and exercise.
I've been in a fitness routine for the last two months with intensive personal training and a dietician, but I'm around 25% body fat because of where I started. However I'm very diligent about my calorie tracking and have a set diet already and workout regularly, and this is one of my top priorities right now. I'd love to have a group to join to learn from. I'm probably not going to be able to get a six pack by September given by current body fat %, but I get caliper, circumference, and weight measurements weekly, so I can provide good data and might get close.
My email I signed up with is 11fishem, hope I can join!
Hey! Impressed by how dedicated you are. Right now, we want to focus on the <25% range, just to make sure we can get people to the six-pack. As we get more confident, we'd love to have you join us.
My tip: provide a bit more information about what people can expect. With all of these types of self-improvement programs (I think of the MITX and Coursera and Udemy courses back in the day that had rigid schedules and coursework due) you can expect a large dropoff between sign-ups and continued effort in the program as the weeks progress.
I think providing a bit more detail about what people will be required to do and what they will receive might help combat that problem (though obviously not solve it).
