Tangentially, is anyone still deploying Kafka greenfield? I had the impression that new deployments we're going with Apache Pulsar [1].

Kafka from what I have seen is winning in large orgs.

The main reason is Confluent, the marketing and the commercial support contracts that comes with Confluent. Then you have the ecosystem around Kafka is a bit more mature.

Personally I prefer Pulsar for its design but Pulsar has no Confluent equivalent or marketing department. I’ve yet to do a Pulsar deployment but deployed Kafka at several large orgs.
