This myth of 8 glasses (or 2 liters, as I usually hear it) has created some anxiety for those who, like me, _hates_ to drink water except when is really thirsty. Seems to be au pair with the thinking that you're always wrong: "don't drink sodas, prefer juices." And you begin to drink juices and it's also bad, water is better. Then regular tap water is bad too, you should drink just those bottle version, and so on.
