Ask HN: Certificate Program Worth Doing?

Hi everyone — I'm looking at a career shift into ML and I'm wondering if a certificate-level program is really worthwhile or if I should hold out and go for a masters or even a Ph.D. The appeal is less disruption for life and family, and less cost, but it's unclear if it offers much in the way of hiring desirability. Any hiring managers out there care to weigh in? This would most likely be at Berkeley Extension and on top of a long-ish existing career.

If you want to be data jockey, a general CS bachelor degree is all you need. If you want to work with the models, then most places seem to want a PhD or at least a Masters.
