Also this, perhaps not super related:

Windows_98.css - https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=8298462 - Sept 2014 (3 comments)

What can I say? It's super whimsical, but that's about it. A proof of concept, but something many people don't have a use-case for.

One use-case would be creating an Electron app and you wanted an oldskool Windows UI instead of resorting to Bootstrap yet again for your project.

You could create clones of popular Windows apps, like someone done with Paint: https://jspaint.app/

Did 98 have gradient colors in the title bar? I thought that was introduced in ME & 2K.

It did if you had True Color enabled (i.e. 16 or 24 bit color depth)

At least 98SE did.

The combobox drop down menu feels wrong. The non-expanded control is true to the style, but the dropdown itself looks like it doesn't implement the Win98/Winforms style. Maybe it's the border?

That's because you cannot style the browser-native dropdown panel with CSS. I don't know offhand if there is any good way to otherwise _emulate_ a dropdown with just CSS (i.e. without JavaScript).

Well that would explain it.

Great UI. Probably its only flaw is it's too grey. Otherwise, much better than the chaotic Windows 10.
