Australia calls out Google for “experiment” blocking some news sites (trust.org)

Can someone explain this? Why should google pay "content creators" for directing users to said content?

That's not the whole story of what google does though, right?

The other side of the medal: Google uses their content to stay relevant and make money off of ads.

I am definitely not a Google fan but this complaint is just a little absurd.

They don't want Google to use their content. Fair enough, Google stops using their content. They complain again leaving one to conclude that what they really want is a cut of Google's revenue model --- amount to be set by them.

Next stop, simply abandon the Australian market as unworkable --- which I'm sure will produce further complaints. At that point, perhaps Google can negotiate a payment to stay. I suggest half the amount of taxes Google currently pays in Australia --- payable to said content creators.
