I've just wondered how the initiatives for a decentralized web were going and was about to submit an "Ask HN" about the state of dat/hypercore/beaker and alternatives such as ipfs, then realized Beaker has just released its first production release after years of work. Congrats! A replacement for http is more needed than ever, with the web now completely dominated by big media and spyware, and http and DNS up for grabs by monopolies to manipulate at will. I so hope beaker can spawn a new grassroots movement for self-publishing, the thing the web has ceased to be.
