It does have negative side effects: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxygen_toxicity

The negative effects may be the very reason why it works, as it has an hormetic response https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hormesis similar to fasting.

There’s a couple theories running around out there about amplifying programmed cell death as a rejuvenating strategy. If you can avoid telomere shortening in the process, it might work.

It’s an interesting Ship of Theseus style problem, though. Replacing all the pieces faster, am I still “me”?

Isn't this the opposite of what some professional athletes do - sleeping in rooms with reduced O2 to increase their VO2 Max (simulating altitude). If this is the opposite would it reduce the amount of red blood cells you have?

I look forward (/s) to someone using this paper to make a hyperbaric chamber startup and selling it to the Hollywood/Kardashian/S.V. class.

Call it Oxygen as a Service, and finally we'll be able to refute the line "at least air is free"...

> However, the idea of spending many hours per day in a pressurized chamber may turn away patients.

I guess in the future humans really will sleep in oxygen chambers!

Its not as simple as increasing telomere length.

2020. The year of pressurized oxygen.
