Doctors are a terrible comparison - the ones I know work insane hours and are often in the hospital 60+ hours a week.



Lots of software developers are expected to do 60 hour weeks too. There are also thousands of lifestyle doctors that just work a few days a week.


"lifestyle doctors" ?

Only on HN is having interests outside of work considered a slur.


For me at least a "lifestyle doctor" is a term without negative connotations.


That completely depends on the specialty. I know plenty who work around 30 hours a week.


Of course, and so do plenty of programmers.
