Ask HN: Interested in opening a startup office in Canada?
5 points by gdilla on Sept 30, 2020 | hide | past | favorite | 8 comments
I'm testing an idea - would anyone with a US based startup be interested in establishing product and engineering operations in Canada - and needs help getting it up, managing and executing on the plan? Would this be interesting to you (why or why not?). I know some companies are promoting this, but I'm just 1 startup-experienced product/eng team leader who would like to pitch this to a great startup i'd want to contribute to.

Interesting concept. I have been thinking about the same idea for quite some time. I would love to connect if you are interested.

Let's chat! I'm the same handle on twitter.

I am interested too. Do you have email or a contact form (I am not on twitter)?

Are you pitching this as a service to startups or are you finding a particular startup to work with?

Good question, I'm not the OP but my idea was the first one.

Whoops, ya, not as a service. There's some companies that do that already. Just a personal pitch for me to do it for you.

In Toronto you can get some amazing developers for half the price of the U.S. A lot of the really good workers despise the U.S. so much, especially right now because of Trump, that you can steal all the rock stars for your startup by offering smart perks.

Also right now we can bring in foreign workers to staff up operations really easily so this is probably a good idea.

Your customer service probably will have to be out of the U.S. or somewhere outside of Toronto, maybe Saskatchewan.
