This has been submitted a least twice[0] before[1] and flagged dead each time. Submissions are sometimes flagged as being thought so far wide of the general community core interest so as to be irrelevant to the vast majority. But sometimes they're flagged because they are divisive, and known (or expected) to produce flame wars and unpleasant exchanges.

It would appear that this article is thought to be interesting by some, and inappropriate by others. That's part of how HN works.

I've found that the academics, the writers of the papers and studies which are referenced by "the woke" are often willing and eager to discuss their research. However they are not the subjects that the "anti woke" people want to debate with. These primary sources and academics often would not identify themselves with the groups that the "anti woke" are targeting, although they would have sympathy and their support.

So we have a situation where there are at least 3 groups of people. 1) the social justice academics. 2) the social justice activists and 3) the anti social justice crew.

The academics have nuance and subtleties in their research which are often removed by the activists. The mob doesn't write papers. No mob debates.

These different groups are the reason why some people say that the idea that the universities are full of anti-truth religious purist moralists is a conspiracy theory.

That has not been my experience with woke academics. They're glad to lecture, but debate stops as soon as they meet someone who can stand up to them and argue back with a similar level of rhetorical prowess and expertise.

They'll debate strawmen, only -- undergrads, unsophisticated public, and similar.

To be clear, that's not true of all academics -- just this group.

I’m one of the wokest people I know and I really enjoy debating my non-woke friends, it’s very entertaining to me to watch them squirm under the pressure of my wit, which is like a forceful wall of the sea.
