I appreciate you standing up for the OP, and of course the shallow-dismissal aspect of internet comments is a big problem, big enough that the site guidelines ask people not to do it: https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html. But they also ask you to "Be kind", plus this:

"Please respond to the strongest plausible interpretation of what someone says, not a weaker one that's easier to criticize. Assume good faith."
