Ask HN: Best resources for AI in computer games
1 point by zwaps on March 14, 2020 | hide | past | favorite
I am an academic researcher working in decision theory, game theory, ML applications and so on. Like many technical people, I dabbled in game programming at some point or another during my youth and thought to take it up again. In particular, I would perhaps like to work on some AI programming in OSS or Indy projects. I noticed in my preliminary reading that there may be some overlap between AI programming and what I worked on in the past. On the other hand, there are a lot of algorithmic and practical considerations that I have no idea about. I had trouble condensing down a good learning path for myself. My programming skills are average, but I do have a decent grasp of mathematics.

So, I'd like to pick your brains on what some good resources are to get into AI programming.

Is this already an established "field", in which a canon of knowledge exists? Are there, perhaps, books or particular articles you can recommend? Are there any people who one might follow? Or any particular keywords or topics that are important or state of the art that would be worth researching?

Where would you start?
