It is reall sad to see an intelligent writer imply an opposition between capitalism and preventing environmental damage. Capitalism with correct accounting of environmental externalities and clear cost signals to polluters would work fine. Any command-economy solution opens many cans of worms. I suspect that retroactive assignment of costs to polluters is in our future anyway, as the damage is also very time-shifted.


It's easy to assign the cause of the damage on a few rich people, but the reality is that billions of people are dependent of cheap oil, even if this way they are destroying their future.

Many people were surprised by Trump and Brexit (both bringing deregulation of the oil marker), but it looks like the voters really knew what they are getting, we just may don't like it.
