The Moral Hazard of Dealing with China (theatlantic.com)

In case you were wondering, it’s a “moral hazard” as in the author saw those two words together once and figured they just mean a moral bad-thing. It’s not a moral hazard in the sense of economics.

Normally it is a specific agency problem and apparently the author does not refer to economics. This is kind of journalism signals bad practice more than forgetting to run an article through a spell checker. Or is this the new clickbait i.e. create controversy at every costs as in Game of thrones way?

Either way applying such a "smart" clicktrick a second time and the outlet is duly noted on my blacklist.

Would be awesome if hn would give the option to also apply my own blacklist.

Yeah. Moral Hazard has a specific meaning in the social sciences and this isn't it.

You should meet more Chinese people, then.

Also, just in general you need to get out a little more.

Hah, unconstructive response. I socialize a ton and meet people from many walks of life, living in nyc. Of course this is an n=1 generalization, but those can hold some weight. Also these are for nationals that live abroad, not 1st+ generation immigrants. These people were really smart too, PhDs.
