How did this post move from page 1 to page 4 so quickly? in the space of pressing the back button.

hacker news has automated algorithms to deprioritise posts it autodetects as "controversial" or "troll bait"

Wow, I didn't know the effect of the deprioritization was so strong. Now I wonder if there's some unofficial HN client that sorts by "controversial" (just like Reddit).

That's not controversial though, just what is seeing a lot of posts and voting. That could imply it's controversial or trollbait, but not per se.
