Near the end he talks about mathematicians with published papers that say "you shouldn't believe any of my papers, they're just telling stories" and don't care if their theories are wrong. Wow





I suspect nobody who has been in academia long enough to get a masters degree at least would be surprised at this statement, no matter what their background. Every field has people like this.

Don't forget how essential story-telling is to the human condition: culture, accumulated knowledge and everything we as a species have achieved is built on top of it. With that in mind, it's much easier to see why people some might want to play the role of storyteller at all costs.
