Even though the easter eggs here on HN can be small, I think a lot of the users really appreciate them. When you get so accustomed to HN, an option to change something such as the top banner color is truly a life changer! What's great is that easter eggs are pretty easy to implement (I'd assume), but they add to the excitement and are something to look forward to for users.
Obviously, adding more easter eggs is not a priority. But it would be very cool if pg did add a few more when he got around to it.
Here are some of my ideas (features would be unlocked at different karma thresholds):
-Change font and size/color
-Change number of posts per page
-Use official tl;dr in a comment (would appear in a area separated
from the comment)
-Use certain formatting in comments (e.g. <hr>, <b>, <u)
-View statistics of how long you've been using HN in the past
24 hours
-Message other users
-View graphs of polls
-Down-vote posts (not just comments)
-Sort and filter posts or comments using different metrics
-Track certain comments (yours or others) and see when people
respond to them
-Choose to only show top comments on a certain thread
Now that I've written them, it seems as if some are not as 'small' as I had expected. But even implementing just one of these over the next few months would be truly be amazing!
Please post any other ideas you may have.
