That's very surprising that you mention iOS as being stable.
To me it's the worst offender. Most of the apps I worked on needed to be updated for every single iOS release because of deprecated APIs.

As a user, I concur with this. I can install Android apps created in 2012 that still work in Android 9.
In iOS, I remember that each major update made half of my apps broken (in some cases, completely broken).
