Isn't GNOME the biggest single desktop by market share?



Only because Ubuntu users started implicitly using it. KDE looks more popular among those who are explicitly choosing a DE.


But how do you know if someone explicitly chooses GNOME when it's the default?


Looking at GOL stats for example, Gnome usage grew when Ubuntu switched from Unity to Gnome (on roughly the amount of Ubuntu users). Before that, KDE had higher usage overall. So my conclusion is that Gnome's majority today can be driven by implicit Ubuntu's choices.


It's hard to measure. Probably?
