Ask HN: Is job transition from a technical/team lead to developer a bad move?
1 point by codeabode on April 18, 2018 | hide | past | favorite
I'm currently a technical lead for a team of 5 engineers. Due to job stability and lack of the ability to "move up" in any way at my current place of employment I've been looking at jobs elsewhere.

Recently got an offer that is fairly lateral. They offered a signing bonus to try and offset the inability to do much with the salary offered.

The pros of this place is that it is possible to move up in the organization and the benefits are similar to my current. Also the potential to work on more interesting projects exist, while where I currently am is fairly stagnant.

The cons in my mind are going from team lead to developer, and the move feeling lateral.

Any advice would be appreciated.
