Cost of roof at 30% solar coverage = 102,500 (~20 sq/ft) for me. It would be 133k at 50% coverage.

Meanwhile, i could replace my roof every 10 years, including new solar panels, for much less than that, even assuming the price of neither roofing, nor solar panels, drops.

But it looks cool.


These other products are the reason Tesla's valuation is in the stratosphere right now. Whether or not this was the original plan, they are a battery and silicon company, not a car company. Investors are betting that markets for premium battery-powered and solar-powered tech are going to keep growing, and in those markets, Tesla is one of the only companies that can compete with Apple for the crown.
