Do we really need to drag this horrible crime into our political discussion by attributing it to our enemies? Do you really think that is helpful?
Culture is important, and here's one example of why.
Have you ever listened to right populists speak on the issues themselves? Specifically, they are supposed to acts like this they don't want to allow more people from these places into their countries.
In fact, as a Donald Trump supporter who approves of his right leaning populism, I specifically hold up his aggressive stance against radical Islam, which perpetrates violence against gays as one of his best policy positions. (Because I oppose Islam, as an ideology, with a passion)
At his convention he had a headline gay speaker (Peter Thiel), made reference in his own speech to standing up for gays who are oppressed by religious persecution, said he was a friend to the LGBTQ community, etc.
Far right populism is about nationalism, national sovereignty and priority vs globalist focus of many governments.
You may disagree with their viewpoints for your own reasons, but don't mischaracterize what positions they hold.
Religious flamewar is off-topic and unwelcome on Hacker News. Please don't do this here.
