This is a disgrace, history is repeating itself but people are too uneducated/ignorant/hateful/stupid to see it.

edit: thanks for feedback.

> tsunami of far-right populism

Do we really need to drag this horrible crime into our political discussion by attributing it to our enemies? Do you really think that is helpful?

You are definitely right, thanks for pointing it out.

I don't think that ignoring the reality of the situation will help our ability to understand and address it.

"Those who don't study history are doomed to repeat it. Those who do study history are doomed to stand by helplessly while everyone else repeats it."

I feel the same about the left currently but everyone thinks their side is correct so there is no discussion.

So you agree with limiting the rights of people that aren't like you?

The tsunami of far right populism? The far right is in favor of protecting U.S. citizens from the monsters that perpetrate such heinous crimes. The far left wishes to open the door to immigration from these countries.

Exactly. One has to severely twist reality to think that right populism isn't strongly opposed to this sort of degradation AND the cultures that practice it.

Culture is important, and here's one example of why.

Far right populism has nothing to do with anti gay violence.

Have you ever listened to right populists speak on the issues themselves? Specifically, they are supposed to acts like this they don't want to allow more people from these places into their countries.

In fact, as a Donald Trump supporter who approves of his right leaning populism, I specifically hold up his aggressive stance against radical Islam, which perpetrates violence against gays as one of his best policy positions. (Because I oppose Islam, as an ideology, with a passion)

At his convention he had a headline gay speaker (Peter Thiel), made reference in his own speech to standing up for gays who are oppressed by religious persecution, said he was a friend to the LGBTQ community, etc.

Far right populism is about nationalism, national sovereignty and priority vs globalist focus of many governments.

You may disagree with their viewpoints for your own reasons, but don't mischaracterize what positions they hold.

> Because I oppose Islam, as an ideology, with a passion

Religious flamewar is off-topic and unwelcome on Hacker News. Please don't do this here.

I wonder if it was grindr they were using to arrest them?
