What I don't understand is why hard fork is bad or why people oppose it? Isn't competition a good thing?

Then it's no longer BTC, it's something else (completely separate networks).

Yes-yes I understand that. There could be two networks: bitcoin and bitcoinxt. And people could choose between the two. So why is that bad? I am asking genuinely
