SSD can also stand for Solid State Disk. Disk does not imply moving parts.


No. It's only referred to that because people are stupid. It contains neither an actual disk nor a drive motor to spin a disk.

If SSD = Solid state disk, then HDD = Hard disk disk.


But it does imply a disc, as in a circular thing. SSDs are very square looking discs...


It's kind of like apps still using the floppy drive icon to indicting Save action.
